Telomerase
Telomerase ist ein Enzym, das repetitive Nukleotidsequenzen an die Enden von Chromosomen, die sogenannten Telomere, anfügt, wodurch deren Länge erhalten bleibt und sie vor Abbau geschützt werden. Telomerase-Aktivität ist entscheidend für die unbegrenzte Proliferation von Zellen, insbesondere in Stammzellen und Krebszellen. Inhibitoren der Telomerase sind von großem Interesse in der Krebsforschung, da sie das Replikationspotenzial von Krebszellen begrenzen und so zum Zelltod führen können.
