Alcohol dehydrogenase catalyzes the reaction: RCH2OH +NAD+ ↔ RCHO + NADH + H+ It facilitates the interconversion between alcohols and aldehydes or ketones with the reduction of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+ to NADH).
