Cesium carbonate is a base used in organic synthesis with applications in N-alkylation of carbamates, amines, indoles, sulfonamides and aromatic imides. Cesium carbonate also promotes O-alkylation of alcohols to give mixed alkyl carbonates and has been used extensively in Suzuki, Heck and Sonogashira coupling reactions.
