Aldol® 470 nonanoate has been used to detect the presence of L-amino acids using a fluorogenic assay. This substrate can be used as a ligand in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to measure the concentration of L-amino acids in food and drink samples, as well as in diagnostics for detecting fluoroquinolone resistance in bacteria.
