Beschreibung

Arecoline is a cholinergic drug that has been shown to inhibit the activity of cyclase and polymerase, which are involved in the synthesis of DNA. This drug also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential and has demonstrated significant cytotoxicity against 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and carcinoma cell lines. Arecoline has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It is also used as an active ingredient in some ointments for the treatment of skin infections such as impetigo or eczema. Arecoline is not recommended for use by pregnant women or children because it may cause birth defects or cancer.
