This compound is also used in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals, as well as in the synthesis of organic compounds. The potential use of this compound has been shown on fibroblast cells, which are cells that produce collagen, an important structural protein. Hydrogen sulfate can be produced by hydrolysis and oxidation of 3-sulfophthalic acid (3SPA). 3SPA can be synthesized from 2-sulfophenylacetic acid (2SPA) using chloride, zirconium and halides. The methoxy groups on the sulfur atom in 3SPA allow for hydrogen bonding with water molecules, which causes electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to show a high resistance to current flow.
