Beschreibung

3-Octanone is a colorless liquid that has a boiling point of 82.5°C and a melting point of -18°C. It can be used as an analytical standard for ethyl decanoate, and as an extractant in solid phase microextraction (SPME) sample preparation. 3-Octanone has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins. It is also used in asymmetric synthesis reactions, and can act as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer or cofactor in transcriptional regulation. 3-Octanone is structurally similar to fatty acids and has a hydroxyl group on the third carbon atom from the end of the molecule.
