Produktinformation
Name:1-Octanol [for Determining Partition Coefficients]
Marke:Biosynth
Beschreibung:1-Octanol is a nonpolar organic compound that is used as a solvent and as a reagent in biochemical experiments. It is soluble in water and reacts with strong bases such as sodium hydroxide to form the ionic 1-octanolate, which can be determined by titration. 1-Octanol is also used in wastewater treatment and biological sample preparation. In rat liver microsomes, 1-octanol inhibits the oxidation of model compounds by cytochrome P450 enzymes. This effect is attributed to its ability to reduce the surface tension at the air-water interface, thereby minimizing interfacial tension effects on enzyme activity. The partition coefficients for 1-octanol are measured by determining the solubility of this substance in various solvents. These values are obtained experimentally from solubility data obtained from melting points and density measurements or calculated from molecular weight data. 1-Octanol has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on rat liver micro
