3-Fluoroisoquinoline is a fluorinated cinnoline that can be used as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET). It has been shown to accumulate in the liver and brain tissues, which are important for HIV infection and cancer. 3-Fluoroisoquinoline is also an efficient method for generating a variety of nucleophilic functional groups from simple starting materials. These functional groups are used in the synthesis of antiviral drugs such as nevirapine.
