5-[(Aminooxy)methyl]-2-bromophenol is a drug that acts as an H1 antagonist. It is used in the treatment of allergic reactions and in the management of some types of metabolic disorders. 5-[(Aminooxy)methyl]-2-bromophenol binds to histidine residues on the H1 receptor, blocking its action. This drug also inhibits enzymes such as dopamine decarboxylase, which converts dopamine to norepinephrine, and fatty acid synthase, which produces long chain fatty acids. 5-[(Aminooxy)methyl]-2-bromophenol has been shown to have a beneficial effect on congestive heart failure by reducing the amount of sodium and water reabsorbed in the kidney. It also stimulates rat striatal dopamine release by blocking inhibitory dopaminergic neurons, causing bronchodilation and vasodilatation.
