Aluminum ethoxide is a chemical compound that is used in organic synthesis as a reagent for the preparation of alcohols from carboxylic acid chlorides. It is also used in the preparation of ethers, esters and amides. Aluminum ethoxide can be prepared by reacting aluminum metal with ethanol in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The product is purified by recrystallization or filtration, and dried over calcium chloride. The molecular weight of aluminum ethoxide can be determined using various spectroscopic techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and solubility data.
