The nature of this ligand is not known with certainty. 1-[(1,1'-Biphenyl]-4-yl)-4,4,4-trifluorobutane-1,3-dione was found to be an excellent fluorescence marker in high concentrations and can emit light when excited by light sources such as lasers or other monochromatic light.
