Myristonitrile is a synthetic compound that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. Myristonitrile has been shown to be effective in the production of acetonitrile and fatty acids. It also functions as an efficient homogeneous catalyst for the oxidative coupling of alkynes. The high basicity of myristonitrile allows it to function as an acid catalyst for many reactions, including the synthesis of amines, nitriles, and other heterocyclic compounds. Myristonitrile has been used in plant physiology research because it can be converted into a variety of functional groups that are found in natural products. These functional groups include alcohols, ketones, esters, carboxylic acids, amides and lactones. Myristonitrile has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties when combined with ruthenium complexes.
