This prevents p-coumaric acid from being converted into other metabolites such as dihydroferulic acid and dihydrocaffeic acid. 2,2,2-Trichloroethyl chlorosulfate also inhibits enzymes involved in the synthesis of cholesterol by competitively inhibiting HMG CoA reductase.
