Atovaquone is an antiretroviral drug that inhibits the mitochondrial electron transport chain of the parasite. It provides protection against malaria by inhibiting the growth of Plasmodium falciparum in red blood cells. 1-Chloro-4-cyclohexylbenzene has been shown to be effective against other parasitic protozoa such as Leishmania major and Trypanosoma brucei.
