Beschreibung

Doripenem is a member of the carbapenem group of antibiotics. It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial cell walls. Doripenem has a broad spectrum of activity and is used to treat infections caused by gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus faecium. Doripenem also has inhibitory properties against wild-type strains of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring in 1 to 2 hours following oral administration. This antibiotic can be used to treat infections in both the community and hospital settings.
