Beschreibung

Rapamycin is a macrolide with immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of restenosis in patients who have undergone coronary angioplasty, although its effects on diabetic patients are not clear. Rapamycin is administered orally as an organic solution that elutes from a polymer drug delivery system. Rapamycin can be used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation and may also be effective against rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, and other autoimmune disorders. Clinical studies have shown that rapamycin inhibits the production of IL-10 by T cells and reduces the activity of B cells and natural killer (NK) cells. This drug has also been shown to inhibit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-8 by monocytes/macrophages in vitro.
