Beschreibung

Dihydrostreptomycin is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of streptomycins. It is a mixture of dihydrostreptomycin, streptomycin, and other related compounds. It has been used in sample preparation for the detection of DNA by sodium citrate-trifluoroacetic acid-sodium hydroxide treatment and matrix effect analysis. Dihydrostreptomycin has also been shown to be active against Gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus subtilis, and Enterococcus faecalis.
Dihydrostreptomycin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to ribosomes and preventing protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
