Norfloxacin methyl ester is a synthetic antibiotic that is effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It inhibits the replication of DNA by binding to the beta-subunit of bacterial DNA gyrase, thereby inhibiting the production of RNA. Norfloxacin methyl ester has been used as an antifungal agent for the treatment of Candida infections. This drug also exhibits antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Norfloxacin methyl ester is used to treat parasitic protozoal infections caused by Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
