It also inhibits the production of intracellular cGMP, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the binding of G protein coupled receptors. CGS 19755 has been shown to have neuroprotective properties in vivo and expressed in vitro. It has high affinity for both alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) and N -methyl--aspartic acid (NMDA) receptors.CGS 19755 has been shown to be more potent than other glutamate antagonists such as LY 273558 in animal tests for neuroprotection.
