It is one of the most effective inhibitors of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and has been shown to be effective in animal models for myocardial infarct. 2,6-Diaminopyrimidin-4-ol has significant cytotoxicity and can induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells. This drug also increases the sensitivity of C-reactive protein (CRP) assays by reducing background interference due to free radicals. It is used as a fluorescence detector for proximal tubules and tubule cells in kidney biopsies.
