Malondialdehyde tetrabutylammonium salt is a free radical scavenger that is used in the treatment of oxidative stress. Malondialdehyde tetrabutylammonium salt has been shown to exert antioxidative activity in humans and Caco-2 cells, and can protect against lipid peroxidation. This compound has also been shown to act as an antioxidant in human serum, with a significant decrease in malondialdehyde levels. Malondialdehyde tetrabutylammonium salt has also been shown to have therapeutic effects on colon carcinoma cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of fatty acids. The analytical method for malondialdehyde tetrabutylammonium salt involves UV absorption at 260 nm.
