Beschreibung

Gentamicin is an antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. It has minimal toxicity and can be used for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections, including those caused by E. cloacae and S. aureus strains. Gentamicin binds to the 16S ribosomal RNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. Gentamicin is also active against cancer cells and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice with experimental lung cancer. The drug is readily absorbed orally, but must be given intravenously due to its low solubility in water. Gentamicin C2 sulfate is an analytical standard that can be used as a reference material for chromatographic methods
