Phosphorylase kinase beta-subunit fragment (420-436) is a peptide that has been shown to activate the phosphorylase kinase enzyme, which is responsible for the conversion of glycogen to glucose. This fragment has also been shown to inhibit the activity of ion channels, including potassium and calcium channels. Phosphorylase kinase beta-subunit fragment (420-436) binds to the receptor protein, which activates it by binding to the phosphate group on its surface; this leads to an increase in intracellular Ca2+ levels and subsequent activation of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases.
