The binding of ADL5859 HCl leads to activation of G proteins, which are protein molecules that act as molecular switches by regulating other proteins inside cells. This activation leads to increased production of the neurotransmitter GABA, which inhibits neuronal activity.; ADL5859 HCl also appears to bind with high affinity to the placental alkaline phosphatase enzyme, an enzyme that plays a role in maternal metabolism, fetal development, and placental function.
