Beschreibung

Oleandomycin is a natural product that has been used for the treatment of infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and brucellosis. It has been shown to inhibit the methyltransferase activity of DNA gyrase, which is an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. Oleandomycin inhibits the ATP-binding cassette transporter, leading to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. Oleandomycin is not active against acid-fast bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. This antibiotic's low potency may be due to its low binding affinity for bacterial enzymes.
