Beschreibung

Oligomycin A is a chemical inhibitor that binds to the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and blocks the movement of calcium ions into cells. It has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of bacteria and pluripotent cells, as well as in studies on mitochondrial functions. Oligomycin A is a natural compound that inhibits cellular respiration by preventing the ATPase from releasing phosphate groups. Oligomycin A also specifically binds to mitochondria and inhibits mitochondrial functions. The rate constant for oligomycin A binding to the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor has been determined using dinucleotide phosphate probes. This allows for an optimum concentration of oligomycin A to be determined for specific purposes, such as cytosolic calcium ion concentration or chromatographic analysis.
