Beschreibung

Phleomycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections caused by opportunistic fungi, such as Aspergillus, Candida, and Cryptococcus. Phleomycin inhibits the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer (NF-κB), which is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in the expression of genes involved with cell proliferation and differentiation. It binds to DNA near the NF-κB binding site and prevents it from binding to DNA. This inhibition causes decreased synthesis of proteins that are responsible for cell proliferation and differentiation. Phleomycin also has carcinogenic potential in mice and may cause chromosomal aberrations in cells. The high resistance observed in some fungal species may be due to its ability to form homologous pairs with dna.
