3-Bromo-4-iodoisopropylbenzene is an organoaluminum compound that is used as a catalyst in the production of ethylene. This compound has a high selectivity for ethylene, which can be attributed to the presence of substituents on the aromatic ring. The catalytic activity of this compound has been shown to depend on the presence of phosphine ligands and the substitution pattern on the phenyl group. The x-ray structure analysis reveals that 3-bromo-4-iodoisopropylbenzene binds to two trimethylaluminum molecules in order to form a phosphine complex.
