Beschreibung

Ribostamycin sulphate is a quinoline-derived antibiotic with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. It is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi. Ribostamycin sulphate inhibits the proteolytic enzymes of bacteria, which prevents the degradation of human proteins by these enzymes. This drug has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on microbial infection and may be useful in treating bowel disease. Ribostamycin sulphate has a high rate of uptake by the cells it targets, which is facilitated by its cationic surfactant properties. The elimination rate for ribostamycin sulphate is slow, making it stable in vivo and resistant to kidney excretion. The molecule can attach to bacterial cells via hydrophobic interactions or through binding to their peptidoglycan layer.
