Beschreibung

Telavancin (TLV) is a novel lipoglycopeptide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the peptidoglycan and inhibiting the cross-linking of peptidoglycan strands. Telavancin is active against most gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and penicillin-resistant pneumococci. It has shown efficacy in treating infections caused by drug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecium. Telavancin also has activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE). Telavancin is not effective against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but does have some activity against Mycoplasma species.
