Indazol-1-yl-methanol is a coordination complex that has antibacterial effects against gram-positive bacteria. It binds to the aluminum ion in the cell wall, which inhibits bacterial growth by preventing the formation of peptidoglycan, an important constituent of bacterial cell walls. Indazol-1-yl-methanol also inhibits the growth of some gram-negative bacteria and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This compound can be synthesized from methylene chloride and amines with acetyl chloride and thionyl chloride. Indazol-1-yl-methanol belongs to the family of xanthene dyes and is characterized by diffraction patterns obtained from xray crystallography.
