Heptylbenzene is an oxygenated, cationic surfactant that is used in devices. It is a basic structure with a hydroxyl group and a dihydro derivative. Its aromatic hydrocarbon chain has a viscosity of 0.5-1.0 mPa·s at 25°C and 1 atm of pressure (4). Heptylbenzene also reacts with chloride to form heptylchloride, which can be analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Heptylbenzene can be used as a catalyst for peptide hormone syntheses in solid phase peptide synthesis. The reaction mechanism of heptylbenzene is not well understood due to the lack of experimental evidence.
