Phenyltoloxamine citrate salt is a biocompatible polymer that is used as a chemical ionization source in pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to be reactive with nucleophilic groups, such as caffeine and fatty acids. Phenyltoloxamine citrate salt has been shown to produce linear calibration curves for the detection of oxidized drugs and metabolites in mammalian tissue. This polymer has also been used to detect drug interactions by analyzing the water vapor emitted by the reaction between various drugs. Phenyltoloxamine citrate salt has not been found to have any adverse effects on liver microsomes from rats.
