Beschreibung

(2-Methylbenzyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide (MBPBr) is an organophosphorus compound that is used in organic synthesis. It is a trioxide that can be synthesized by the reaction of methoxide with acetyl chloride. MBPBr can also be synthesized by the Wittig reaction using 2-methylbenzyl chloride and phosphorus pentachloride. The demethylation of MBPBr can be accomplished by heating it with lithium metal in liquid ammonia. MBPBr has been reported to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
