3-Decanol is an additive that is used in insecticide formulations to improve the insecticidal efficacy. 3-Decanol is a volatile compound, which can be extracted with headspace gas chromatography. The data base of 3-decanol has been compiled from gradients, headspace gas chromatographs, and microextraction techniques. It can be used as a chiral probe for the identification of brachyuran insects and conspecifics. 3-Decanol also has been found to have insecticidal activity against some species of insects.
