Trilauryl trithiophosphite is a low potency, magnetic, reactive liquid that has been prepared by the reaction of trithiophosphoric acid with triethanolamine. It is soluble in water and has a pH of 7-10. Trilauryl trithiophosphite reacts with copper (II) to form a blue-green complex, which can be detected by recording the emission spectrum of this complex. This compound is used as a reagent for determining the presence of hydroxyl groups in unsaturated alkyl compounds.
