The rate of metabolism can be measured using UV absorption at 275 nm. 6-Nitro-1-pyrenol-d8 is also broken down in rat liver microsomes, and its metabolic pathway can be studied using this experimental model. 6-Nitro-1-pyrenol-d8 has been shown to inhibit the growth of typhimurium (a type of bacteria) in vitro, but does not affect the growth rate of other bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
