The hydroxyl group on this molecule can form hydrogen bonding interactions with functional groups on other molecules, which may contribute to its cytotoxicity. 4,7-Dihydroxycoumarin is produced by the oxidation of 4-hydroxycoumarin and it has been shown to have tautomeric properties.
