• Beschreibung: Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-diuretic that is used to treat hypertension and edema caused by conditions such as renal failure, hepatic cirrhosis and estrogen therapy. It lowers blood pressure by inhibiting an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase. Chlorthalidone binds to the chloride channel in kidney tubule cells and prevents the reabsorption of chloride ions in these cells. This leads to more water being excreted from the body, which reduces blood volume and pressure.
