1,4-Bis(3-isocyanopropyl)piperazine is a ligand that is used in the formation of metal complexes. It has been shown to be useful for the removal of copper from aqueous solutions and can also be used as an emulsifier. 1,4-Bis(3-isocyanopropyl)piperazine binds to copper ions through coordination and forms a complex with them. The resulting copper complex is then able to bind with other substances such as aldehydes, which are not water soluble, and remove them from solution. This ligand has been shown to have catalytic properties in organometallic reactions.
