Esmolol is a beta-adrenergic blocker that is used for the control of heart rate in various types of tachycardia. This drug inhibits the agonistic effect of sympathetic neurotransmitters by binding to the receptor sites. This drug is said to be cardioselective and targets beta-1 receptors.
