MK-0354 is a statin, which is used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is also used as an anti-platelet agent in the treatment of coronary heart disease and stroke. MK-0354 inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR), which converts HMG-CoA to mevalonate. MK-0354 has moderately high bioavailability, with a Cmax of about 1 µg/mL. The drug is metabolized through cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as CYP3A4, and it is eliminated primarily through hepatic metabolism.
MK-0354 has been shown to be effective in treating hyperlipidemia (high levels of fats in the blood), as well as lowering total cholesterol levels and low density lipoprotein (LDL). There are clinical studies that show MK-0354 can
