HO-PEG17-OH is a conjugate of HO-PEG and 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17OHP) that can be used to diagnose cancer. It can be used in the detection of cancer cells through fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). In this assay, the fluorophore of HO-PEG17-OH is excited by a laser at a certain wavelength and transferred to an acceptor molecule, which is typically another fluorophore. The acceptor molecule then emits light at a different wavelength. This process can be detected using a microscope. The hybridization of HO-PEG17-OH with dna replication enzymes has been shown to inhibit the growth of hydatid cysts in mice.
