Inhibitor of vesicular monoamine transporters with anti-hypertensive properties. Syrosingopine is also inhibitor of monocarboxylate transporters MCT1 and MCT4 and has 60-fold higher potency on MCT4. Syrosingopine inhibits lactate export from cells, causing glycolytic blockade, ATP depletion and cell death. Syrosingopine was shown to sensitise cancer cells to metformin treatment and potentiate its anti-cancer activity.
