2-Methoxytropone is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHClO. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents, but not water. 2-Methoxytropone has hydroxy group and uv absorption properties that can be used in analytical chemistry. This compound also has biological properties and is an analytical reagent for pharmacological agents. 2-Methoxytropone reacts with HCl to produce 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl alcohol and hydrochloric acid by means of the following reaction mechanism:
