CRF antagonists are structurally related to the endogenous peptide, CRF, which regulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Ethyl 5-methyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate binds to the CRF receptor and blocks its activity, thus inhibiting the release of corticotropin from the pituitary gland. It is a bicyclic molecule that is closely related to other analogs such as alniditan, with similar properties.
