Humans have been shown to be able to detect octen-3-yl acetate at concentrations of 1ppb or less and it appears to have a role in pheromones. Octen-3-yl acetate has been shown to disrupt metathesis reactions when mixed with other compounds, such as 2,6 dichlorobenzaldehyde and benzoyl chloride.
