Beschreibung

N-Phenylcarbamic acid methyl ester is a compound that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It is an N-heterocyclic carbamate, which contains nitrogen atoms and a carboxylic acid group. The first step of the mechanism by which it affects bowel disease is that it reacts with ammonia in the reaction solution to form a diazonium salt. This salt then reacts with zirconium oxide, forming hydrogen bonds to linear molecules, leading to the formation of zirconium hydroxide complexes. These complexes react with hydrochloric acid to produce hydroxylamine and hydrogen chloride gas, which are responsible for the anti-inflammatory effects of this drug.
