1-Piperidinepentanol is a highly selective oxidant. It can be used to oxidize amines and an alcohols selectively under mild conditions. 1-Piperidinepentanol is used in organic chemistry as a palladium-catalyzed oxidant, often in conjunction with other reagents such as hydrogen peroxide or diaminoethane.
1-Piperidinepentanol can be prepared by the cyclization of 2,5-diaminopentane. This reaction is catalyzed by a palladium catalyst and produces 1-piperidinepentanol in high yield.
